Guest Lecture and Hands-On Workshop on Loop Mechanics – June 26, 2025

The Department of Orthodontics at Malla Reddy Institute of Dental Sciences, in collaboration with Malla Reddy Dental College for Women, recently hosted an enriching full-day academic program. The event featured Dr. Suga Reddy, esteemed Professor and Head of the Department of Orthodontics at Navodaya Dental College, Raichur.

The program began with an extensive lecture and hands-on table demonstration on loop mechanics, focusing on the Opus loop and PG retraction spring. This was followed by a live clinical demonstration, where students had the opportunity to observe the practical application of retraction springs on a patient. The session also included an in-depth academic discussion on segmental versus sectional mechanics.

A notable segment of the event was the session on “The Art of Reading a Journal Article,” which was well-attended by postgraduate students, faculty, and interns from both institutions. The highlight of the program was the active participation of postgraduate students, who independently bent and formed various loops under expert guidance, fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of biomechanics.
