INTRODUCTION

The Department of Prosthodontics at MRIDS, Hyderabad was established in 2012. This branch of dentistry is unique blend of science, art and creativity and aims at rehabilitation of oral health of people with missing teeth or oral and facial structures; providing various treatment modalities ranging from removable partial & complete dentures to fixed tooth-supported & implant- supported prostheses.

We also provide maxillofacial prosthesis to the patients with missing extra-oral structures to improve their functional ability and social status. The department provides state-of-the art clinical care to the patients in an environment modeled after private prosthodontic practice thus facilitating best clinical training to undergraduate students.

We perform to the highest standards of integrity, ethics, fairness and professionalism in our daily actions and interactions. We encourage creativity, embrace new challenges and actively seek out opportunities for new advances in our field.

VISION:

The vision of department of Prosthodontics is to impart top quality education to UGs and PGs and prepare the students to be dentists and prosthodontists with proper scientific and ethical values thus resulting ultimately in dental health care of highest quality for the patients.

  • Achieve academic excellence through innovative teaching, effective evaluation, and research-driven approaches.
  • Combining specialized knowledge in Prosthodontics and Oral & Maxillofacial Prosthetics for transformative smiles.

FACILITIES

  • The clinic is equipped with 34 motorized and non-motorized dental chairs and advanced sterilization equipment as per DCI norms.
  • The department has well- equipped undergraduate pre-clinical & clinical sections along with lecture/seminar hall & department museum.
  • Well ventilated Pre-clinical Prosthodontics and dental materials labs with modern equipments and facilities accommodating 120 students. Pre-clinical student programs have been established.
  • A separate 2000sq feet acrylic laboratory is provided for undergraduate students with all required equipments and instruments.
  • A separate casting and ceramic laboratory with the latest equipment and material, capable of functioning as a commercial dental laboratory and provide quality dental care to patients at affordable prices.
  • The department also has library provided with good number of standard international/ national textbooks to meet the academic needs of the students.
  • Department organizes regular hands-on programs and professional development programs for students and staff separately.
  • Department of Prosthodontics is centre of excellence with highly qualified and trained faculty members.

Branches in Prosthodontics

The discipline of Prosthodontics covers a broad area and includes

  1. Removable Prosthodontics: is involved with the replacement of missing teeth and structures with restorations that are removable by the patient on a daily basis which includes the removable partial and complete dentures. These restorations derive their support from the teeth and/or bone and soft tissues.
  2. Fixed Prosthodontics: is involved with replacement of single to multiple missing teeth with restorations that are permanently attached to the teeth.
  3. Maxillo- Facial Prosthesis: deals with the treatment of patients with developmental and acquired defects of the maxillofacial region.
  4. Implant Prosthodontics: Involves the use of dental implants to support/ retain prosthesis of various sizes and designs from single tooth to full arch and fixed and removable
  5. Advanced Esthetics: the art of beauty providing the latest cosmetic restorative procedures and materials available.
